Description: According to Greek mythology, Danae was the only daughter of Akrisios, king of Argos, and Eurydice, daughter of Lacedaemon. She was the mother of the demigod hero Perseus. Her father, King Akrisios, had received an oracle, according to which he would be killed by his grandson. So he decided to lock Danae and her foster mother in an underground prison whose walls were lined with metal plates. Danae, however, fell in love with Zeus, who was transformed into a golden rain and thus entered, from a crevice, in her prison. Perseus was born from this union.
