Description:
Alexandru Ioan Cuza was the first ruler of the Romanian National State. He was the first ruler of the Romanian Principalities through his double election as prince of Moldavia and prince of Wallachia at the 24th of January 1859. The new State was called Romania and the capital city was Bucharest.
He initiated a series of reforms that contributed to the modernization of Romanian society and of state structures. The most important reforms were related to education and justice.
