Description: Odysseas Elytis is one of the most praised poets of the second half of the twentieth century. Borned in Crete at 1911, and passed away in 1996, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1979. In his poetry he devoted himself exclusively to today's Hellenism, of which he attempted to reconstruct a modernist mythology. He is often given the name “The poet of the Aegean sea”. Many of his poems have been set to music, and his collections have been translated into many foreign languages.
