The poet and songwriter Carl Michael Bellman (1740-1795) is one of Sweden's most famous poets and troubadours, often referred to as a national poet. Bellman was born in Stockholm and died there at the age of 55.
Bellman quickly became popular, and as a social young man with musical talents, he was often hired as a musician at private events. His repertoire consisted mostly of drinking songs, such as "Supa at twelve o'clock" and the even more famous bible parody "Gubben Noak".
