Description:
Aydin is a city in Turkey built in the valley of the river Meander.
In ancient Greek sources the name of the city appears as Anthea and Evanthia, while it is also mentioned as Seleucia on the Meander,
Before the exchange of populations about 10,000 Greeks lived in Aydin. The Greek community of the city controlled the trade and had schools, hospitals, the well-known literary association "Melissa" which maintained a library and a philharmonic company.
Aidini was occupied by the Greek army on May 14th, 1919. A month later, the Greek army was forced to retreat, leaving the city for three days, during which the population and the Boy Scouts teams, who were in the city, were massacred. The massacre of the city's Boy Scouts is considered the bloodiest aspect for scouting worldwide. The Greek army recaptured the city three days later and left it permanently during the general withdrawal of the Greek army from Asia Minor, in August 1922
