Description: When the Swedish East India Company (SOIC) was formed in 1731, it was the last established company in Europe. The idea of a Swedish East India Company had nevertheless existed for quite some time, already in 1624 Gustav II Adolf approved a trading company that would run long-distance trade. But many thought it was wrong to bring luxury goods into the country such as tea, fabrics and china, which would only make a privileged few enormously wealthy. In the end, the desire to found a company was greater than the resistance. The ships were always built in Sweden with the necessary equipment, under the Swedish flag. The company was also given the right to meet violence with violence as there were plenty of pirates and the cargo had to be defended at all costs. Each expedition must also depart from Gothenburg and return with its cargo to the port of Gothenburg.
