Category: Person
Category in detail: Famous footballplayer
Description: Gunnar Gren was born in Oscar Fredrik's parish on October 31, 1920, grew up in Majorna and played all-Swedish football for Gårda BK, IFK Göteborg, Örgryte IS and Gais. He was awarded the very first Golden Ball in 1946, later became Italian champion with Milan, won Olympic gold and played in the World Cup final with Sweden. November 10, 1991 he passed away aged 71. Gunnar Gren had four children, is buried in the Western cemetery and since 1993 stands a statue in front of Gamla Ullevi. - In terms of Gothenburg football, he is the greatest we've had, although many blue-whites (IFK Gothenburg) say Torbjörn Nilsson and the green-black (GAIS) player Karl-Alfred Jacobsson. He represented all the big clubs in Gothenburg and it is entirely reasonable that he has a statue outside Gamla Ullevi, says Pontus Forslund.
