Description:
Raoul Wallenberg's deed during World War II is unique. By acting with civil courage and humanity, he saved tens of thousands of Jews from the Holocaust. As a Swedish diplomat, he made a difference by issuing protective passports and establishing so-called Swedish houses where Hungarian Jews could seek refuge on neutral ground.
Raoul Wallenberg was born in 1912 and was last seen in freedom on January 17, 1945 when he was arrested by Soviet authorities and then imprisoned. His fate therefore is still unknown. According to Russian information, he must have died in captivity in 1947, but how and when is uncertain. In October 2016, Raoul Wallenberg was finally declared dead by the Swedish authorities.
