Description: Constantinople was founded on the site of the ancient city of Byzantium, a colony of the Megarians in 330 AD by Constantine I and became the capital of the Roman Empire. It is the only city in the world located both on two continents, Europe and Asia. Constantinople was a strong and great political , economic and cultural center that prospered. It was conquered by the Crusaders in 1204 and finally by the Ottomans in 1453. In the 16th c. the Greeks occupy relevant positions and until the 19th century, Constantinople, the capital of the Ottoman Empire, became an economic center as well as a religious center of Hellenism. After the Asia Minor Catastrophe, Constantinople was not the capital city anymore, Ankara was officially declared Capital till this day.
