Description: Anagnostara’s real name was Christos Papageorgiou, who was a member of the Filiki Etaireia and a chieftain. He collaborated with the Russians, the British and the French. He served as a Major for the French army. Alongside with the heroes of the Greek Revolution, generals Petrobeis Mavromichalis, Kolokotronis and the Koumoundourakides, they liberated Kalamata on March 23rd, 1821. He took part in many battles and contributed to the generalization of the fight in Trifylia and Olympia. He was actively involved in politics and during Koundouriotis governmentship became Minister of Defense. As a minister he repulsed the invasion of Ibrahim in the Peloponnese region. He was killed in 1825 during the siege of Sfaktiria by Egyptians. The Greek State honored him with the rank of General.
