Description:
Aristomenis, who was the Commander and great hero of the Messinians, fought for the liberation of Messinia from the Spartans during the Second Messinian War (685-668 BC).
Despite his achievements, he was betrayed by Aristokrates, king of Arcadia, who withdrew his troops in a crucial battle, judging negatively the outcome of the war. Aristomenis along with his army and the rest of the Messinians were besieged for 11 years (682-671 BC) in the fortress of Eira, until the betrayal of Aristocrates for the second time. Aristomenis died in Rhodes, near King Damagitos, husband of his third daughter.
