Description: The street is dedicated to the Palaeologan Dynasty, the last imperial family of Byzantium. Its ancestor was Michael VIII Palaiologos, who was proclaimed emperor in 1261, when he recaptured Constantinople and overthrew the Latin Empire, which had been founded after the Fourth Crusade. The Palaiologos Dynasty lasted until May 29, 1453 and the conquest of Constantinople by the Ottoman Empire, with the last Byzantine emperor and most prominent of all, Constantine XI Palaiologos. Constantine XI Dragasis Palaiologos, after his death during the Fall of Constantinople (1453), became a legendary figure in Greek folklore as the "Marbled King", who awakened and recovered the Empire and Constantinople from the Ottomans.
