Description: The street is dedicated to ‘‘Ypapanti tou Sotiros’’, the metropolitan church of Kalamata. It is a Byzantine rhythm church, in which the historical icon of the Virgin Mary, dating from 672 A.D is supposed to have been painted by the Evangelist Luke. The church was built in 1860, inaugurated in 1879 and celebrates every February 2, a local holiday, since Virgin Mary ‘‘Panagia Ypapanti’’ is the patron saint of Kalamata.
