                    Description:
Αccording to the city plans of 1905 at the end of that street there was a Stadium for the “needs” of the Messinian Gymnastics Association (year of foundation:1888). Its’ main sport was the Athletics, highlighting great athletes, such as Kostis Tsiklitiras. In the 30's a closed gym was built in the Stadium, a pioneering project of the time.
During the Nazi’s Occupation, the stadium was abandoned while the great football player Potis Manoloudis was executed on February 8, 1944 by the Nazis for his resistance. Only two rare, photographically captured, football meetings of the Messinian and the Mixed Kalamata athletes versus German army footballers took place in the stadium, in March and April 1944.
The football part was reconstructed in 1967 and then the first stands were built, turning the space into a stadium. Today’s shape was formed in 1994. The Messinian stadium is considered the oldest in Greece and the ninth oldest in Europe.
