Description: Iuliu Maniu was born in Transylvania. He was an MP and a lawyer before he became the prime-minister of Romania. During the reign of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire he was an activist for the rights of the Romanian population. He went to Wien to negotiate the rights of Romanian population in Transylvania and he also fought for the unity of the three Romanian countries. In his political quality he played a major role in the Union od Transylvania with Romania (the city of Alba-Iulia, the 1st of December 1918). After the communist coup d'état he was arrested and convicted for treason. He died in Sighet prison.
