Street name: Strada János Bolyai
Category: Person
Category in detail: Mathematician
Description:
He was a Hungarian mathematician born in Transylvania.
In 1826, János Bolyai developed the absolute geometry a geometry that includes both Euclidean geometry and hyperbolic geometry simultaneously but independently of Lobacevski and Carl Friedrich Gauss.
János Bolyai proved that the famous axiom of parallels is independent of the other axioms of geometry and deduced that Euclid's geometry is not the only one possible and that a new, more general geometry can be developed, which he called the absolute science of space geometry independent of the classical one.
He was an important contributor to the development of modern geometry.
