Description:
Miguel Hernández Gilbert was a Spanish poet and playwright belonging to the Generation of 27 and 36.
He was born in Orihuela (Alicante) on October 30, 1910. In his beginnings, he was a goat herder, but his passion for literature was largely fed by the authors of the Spanish Golden Age. This passion led him to buy a typewriter with which he wrote the only award-winning poem “Canto a Valencia”.
This fame allowed him to move to Madrid to continue writing works. However, his affiliation with the Communist Party of Spain forced him to fight in the Spanish Civil War. The end of this contest meant his exile, but it did not end because he was handed over to the Civil Guard by the Portuguese dictator Salazar. He died on March 28, 1942 in the infirmary of the Alicante prison due to tuberculosis
