Georgios Papandreou: He was born in 1888 in Achaia. He studied law in Athens and political sciences in Berlin. Eleftherios Venizelos appointed him as governor in Lesvos and then as minister of Education. In the World War II he took part in the Resistance against the conquers. After the Liberation he formed government of national unity. Between 1947 and 1950 he became a minister several times. In 1961 he was recognized/acknowledged as the leader of «Enosi Kentrou» ( Union of the Center), his political party. In February of 1964 he prevailed at the elections, but the rebellions overthrown him in July 1965. At the dictatorship (1967 – 1974) he was confined in his house at Kastri. He died on 1st of November of 1968 at the hospital «Evangelismos». People called him «The Old man of Democracy».
