Papaflessas: Georgios Dikeos Flessas was born in Messinia. He became monk at Velanidia’s Monastery in Kalamata with the name Grigorios. He went to Konstantinopolis where he became Archimandrite by the patriarch Grigorios E΄. As a member of Filiki Eteria he fought for the prevalence of the Greek Revolution. On March 23rd, 1821 he participatd in the Liberation of Kalamata, where he fought for the Greek Revolution. When Ibrahim came to the Peloponnese, Papaflessas, although he was Minister of Internal Affairs and Chief Police, went to Messinia, to prevent the invasion. = On May 20th, 1825 Papaflessas died during the battle of Maniaki where they fought continuously for 8 hours.
