Plato (427 – 347 a. C., Athens): Ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates’ student and Aristoteles’ teacher. He stayed with Socrates until his teacher’ s death (399 a. C.). He travelled to Sicily and to South Italy where he met the Pythagorean philosophers who influenced him. He founded his philosophical school in Athens (about 387 a. C.). He wrote his philosophical work after Socrates’ death and after his return from Syracuse. He died quietly at the age of 80. His philosophical work has the form of dialogues with Socrates as the first actor.
